What is functional fitness training?
Functional fitness exercises train your muscles to work together and prepare them for daily tasks by simulating common movements you might do at home, at work or in sports. While using various muscles in the upper and lower body at the same time, functional fitness exercises also emphasize core stability.

For example, a squat is a functional exercise because it trains the muscles used when you rise up and down from a chair or pick up low objects. By training your muscles to work the way they do in everyday tasks, you prepare your body to perform well in a variety of common situations.

What are the benefits of functional fitness training?

Functional exercises tend to be multijoint, multimuscle exercises. Instead of only moving the elbows, for example, a functional exercise might involve the elbows, shoulders, spine, hips, knees and ankles. This type of training, properly applied, can make everyday activities easier, reduce your risk of injury and improve your quality of life.

FAQ’s

How do I book my first FREE class?

Conact one of our coaches for a quick telephone consulation and let us know when your coming to train.  Please complete our Health Questionnaire which you can download and bring with you.  We need this information before you train.

What should I wear?

You must wear trainers but other than that it’s entirely up to you and whatever you feel comfortable in. We suggest you bring a small hand tail with you. You must bring your own water bottle to every session. As you progress through your training our coaches will advise you on any additional items which we feel you may require.

Are there lockers?

We provide lockers in our rest room which we ask you store all your bags and valuables in which keeps the gym floor free for safety. We are not responsible for any valuables which you choose to bring with you.

I’m worried about coming on my own!

We have a fantastic array of members, from 50 plus year old females, to young male athletes.  All our members train together in a friendly atmosphere, and train together because we scale each exercise so that it caters for all abilities.

You will receive a warm welcome and make some great friends.  We have lots of social events too and you will meet some great people along the way.

Who will I be coached by?

Your be coached by Nick and Drew, who between them, have over 25 years experience in the fitness industry as Royal Army Physical Training Corps Instructors within the British Army.

Between them they have gained vast experience in the development and rehabilitation of injured soldiers as well as the design and implementation of robust training programmes for soldiers deploying all over the world on operations.

Nick and Drew have been running gymnasiums, training and developing countless PT Instructors for many years and have now taken their knowledge and skill set to the civilian fitness industry.

Between them they will coach and encourage you to ensure you achieve your fitness goals.

How long are the classes?

Some of our classes are 45 minutes and some are 1 hour.  Checkout the timetables page for more information.

We advise all our members were possible to arrive 10-15 minutes before the session begins in order to begin warming up and mobilising.

What is a typical class like?

Our classes are capped at 15 people and run by 2 instructors, giving you almost one to one training, which is not only safe, but means that you are being constantly coached and encouraged through your workouts.  This will make a massive difference to your training output and ultimately, your fitness.

Our classes are dynamic, fun, and goal-oriented workouts combine flexibility, core stability, resistance training, functional movements and strength workouts to individually set you up to succeed! The many benefits of this training programme include increasing lean body mass, increasing metabolic and cardiovascular efficiency, and decreasing body fat.

We do not allow any new users to join into the classes until we have functionally screened our new members for an hour.  This firstly ensures it is safe for you to perform complex exercises and movements, but secondly, to ensure you are confident to join in, and we are confident that you have no potential injuries.

What if I’m injured or have a weakness in my body?

Our coaches are rehab specialists and can recommend the best course of action to get you back to full time training.

Let us know of any injuries/concerns so that we can provide you with alternative exercises before the class begins.
